. . . part of a series inspired by the music of Modest Moussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition. This handmade monotype represents the second section of Catacombe, titled Cum Mortuis in Lingua Mortua (With the Dead in a Dead Language). Moussorgsky's margin notes read, "The creative genius of Hartmann leads me to the skulls and invokes them; the skulls begin to glow."
