. . . part of a series inspired by the music of Modest Moussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition. This handmade linoleum block print represents X. La Grande Porte de Kiev (The Great Gate of Kiev). This print depicts Victor Hartmann's entry in the competition to design a great gate for the city of Kiev to commemorate the failed assassination attempt upon Tsar Alexander II. The project was eventually cancelled. This is the only print in the series that is closely derived from Hartmann's work.
